There are a lot of ways you can get hacked, and the repercussions could end up as both a social and or financial nightmare trying to get your account(s) back. Here are some best practices and tips I’ve learned

First, a few tools everyone should be using

Not sponsored by LastPass. Just a kickass product I use
  1. Use a password manager to create 20–99 random character passwords. I personally use LastPass (not sponsored by them…yet). This includes the Chrome extension on my laptop and the app on my phone. It costs $1.99 a month but offers dark web protection, real-time updates, and overall super seamless. 10/10 recommend it
  2. Use a 2factor authentication (2FA) tool, I also use LastPass Authenticator for personal, Duo Mobile for anything university-related, and Okta at my day job. This beats a text message authentication because hackers can easily call a phone provider, ask for a Sim card replacement, and get a 4–6 digit code on another device and hack into your account(s)
  3. iPhone reset after 10 failed login attempts — instructions here
